The short version. We collect what you tell us at signup and what you listen to. We use it to show Artists where their audience is — as totals, never as a list of people. No Artist is ever shown your name, your username or your email. We don't sell anything to anyone, and you can delete everything whenever you want.
Who holds your information
BuzzMusic.live, operating from Flekkerøy, Norway, decides how your information is used and is responsible for looking after it.

What we collect
When you sign up
Username, email address, password (stored scrambled, we can't read it), date of birth, country and town. Fans may also give a gender. Artists give a performing name. Businesses give a business name, service type and areas covered.
When you use the site
Which tracks you play and for how long, what you follow, favourite and add to playlists, and the messages you send through Buzzmail. Roughly where you are when you listen — worked out from your internet connection to town level, never to an address.
If you pay us
Your billing name and country, and a record of what you paid. Card details go straight to our payment provider and never reach our servers.
Technical
Browser type, device type, and the pages you visit, for keeping the site working and secure.

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not make automated decisions that affect you legally.
What Artists can see
This is the part of BuzzMusic that people ask about most, so it is worth being exact.
Totals, and nothing else
Artists see grouped numbers for the people who play their music: how many listeners in each town and country, split by age band and by gender, and which of their own tracks get replayed. They can open any town to see that breakdown.
Nobody is named. There is no list of listeners. An Artist cannot see your username, your email address, your real name, your date of birth, your payment details, or anything at all about Artists other than themselves.
Every listener is counted in these grouped totals, which never identify anyone. What you can turn off is messages from Artists — see below.
A place is only named when at least five listeners are in it. Where fewer than five people share a town, that town is not shown. They are combined instead into a wider area — "Elsewhere in Norway", or "Elsewhere in Europe" — so the Artist sees the listening but not the location. Where even a whole region has fewer than five, no breakdown of any kind is produced.
Messages from Artists
An Artist can write one message to everyone following them. BuzzMusic delivers it. The Artist is not shown who received it, how many people opened it, or anything about them. You can stop receiving these in settings.
If you message an Artist
If you choose to message an Artist, they see your username and can reply. You started that conversation and it is only with that Artist. Nothing else about you is revealed, and no other Artist sees it.
Artists cannot start a conversation with an individual listener. That is not a setting — the site does not allow it.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your information. We do not share it for advertising.
We use a small number of companies to run the service, and they only get what they need to do their job:
- Hosting and storage — Microsoft Azure, in the European Union.
- Payments — handled by a payment provider who receives your billing details directly.
- Email — a delivery service, to send you account and account-related mail.
We will also hand over information where the law requires it, or to investigate fraud, abuse, or a copyright claim.
Where your information lives
In the European Union. If that ever has to change, we will tell you first and put proper safeguards in place.
How long we keep it
- Your account — while it exists. When you close it, it is removed straight away (see Pausing or closing your account).
- Payment records — five years, because Norwegian accounting law requires it.
- Play records — town, age band and gender kept as grouped statistics indefinitely; the link to you personally is removed twenty-four months after the play.
- Buzzmail messages — until either of you deletes them, or the account closes.
- Copyright claims — six years, as set out on the copyright page.
- Music licence records — when an Artist closes or loses their account, the track names and play counts needed for our music licence report are kept, without any contact details, until that year's report has been sent, then deleted.
Pausing or closing your account
Pausing
In Settings you can pause your account. While it is paused, your page and tracks are hidden, nobody can message you, and you receive nothing from Artists you follow. Nothing is deleted. Log in and press Resume and everything is back as it was.
Closing
You can also close your account in Settings. Before you confirm, you see exactly what will be removed. Closing removes your account, your tracks and every file, your pictures, video links, playlists, follows, messages and backstage notes, straight away.
What is kept after you close
- Your plays — kept as plays by nobody in particular, the same as a play by someone not logged in. Your name, email and account are no longer linked to them. We need them for the licence reports we send to TONO, the music rights organisation.
- If you are an Artist: a licence record of your tracks — track titles, credits and how many times they were played — is kept until we have sent that year's report to TONO, and then deleted. It holds no contact details.
- Our own admin log keeps a note that the account was closed and when. Your email address is removed from it.
Hearing from us after you close (optional)
When you close your account, there is one box you can tick if you would like to hear BuzzMusic news and offers. It is never ticked for you. If you tick it, we keep only your name (your Artist name, or your username), your email address, your account type, and when and to what wording you agreed — nothing about your tracks, plays or listening. We never share or sell it. Every email we send has a link to unsubscribe; one click takes you off the list and deletes your name and address from it. If you don't tick the box, nothing is kept.
Your rights
Wherever you are, you can:
- See what we hold. Ask and we'll send you a copy.
- Correct it if it's wrong — most of it you can edit yourself in settings.
- Delete your account and everything personal in it.
- Take it with you in a file you can use elsewhere.
- Stop Artist messages reaching you, any time, in settings.
- Object to us using your information for statistics.

If you think we've handled your information badly, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet, or to the equivalent authority in your own country.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember your settings, and count visits so we know which parts of the site are used. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not let other companies place cookies here.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser, but you won't be able to stay logged in.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything significant we'll email you thirty days beforehand. If a change affects what Artists can see about you, we will ask for your consent again rather than assume it.
